Is Xylitol one of the bad sugar alcohols? I thought I remembered reading in the Atkins book about certain sweeteners that are larger and one that are not.

Just recently I bought some " Koolerz " gum and it reads that there is no carb count on the back ( 2 carbs minus 2 sugar alcohols ) but I am curious about the sweeteners in it ( xylitol and mannitol ). If these are bad, then can someone suggest a gum that I may chew to get rid of the dragon breath that comes along with eating the pizza cheese low carb snacks - WHEW! ( I think I learned a lesson with those things. )

Any help is mightily appreciated.

Robin

RobinTasha - for the small amount I get in sugarless gum, I don ' t sweat it.

And I have never had a reaction to the small amount of sugar alcohols in the gum.

I HAVE had the CYP syndrome with the more clear SA ' s - Lacticol is the worse ( by many people ' s accounts ), Maltitol is another that is hard on the system if I have too much.

What I have discovered is erythirol - it ' s wonderful and DOES NOT have the CYP effect.

7 - 11 ' s are carrying two candy bars ( yeah, I know, but if you are goin to eat one, these should top your list ) - one is called called Z - carbs, the other is called At Last - both are sweetened with erythirol. Very good and if you count all the carbs - no deduction of SA ' s, the bars are 13 - 15 carbs ( depending on flavor. ) I usually eat 1 / 3 bar when I do eat them ( once or twice a week - I keep them stored in my freezer. )

If Teuthis reads this, I am installing a mirror on my refridgerator door.

Also, I have a pack of the Lemonade Koolerz, but have not tried them yet. Yay! Something to look forward to.

Thanks to all you guys.
