I am on the third week of Atkins. 2 weeks of Induction went ok ( just a few days of shaking ), lost 8 lbs... am now on OWL, adding a new veggie every day. I actually do not need to lose more than 5 more lbs. ( am 5 ' 1 ", 113, 36 yr old female ). I started atkins because my metablism has slowed down. I wanted to change my lifestyle, not doing to be utterly thin. My son ' s bday is coming up, and would it be so severely bad if i eat a slice of his bday cake? ( other than that i eat no dessert, sugar, fruits... do not have sweet tooth at all ) I would feel bad if I can ' t share his cake with him. [ / icon_cry. gif]

Try having a very thin sliver of cake if you must. Focus on the celebration and eat just a bite or two. Any more would constitute a deliberate desire for cake and not the family experience. Even that small amount at this point in time could cause you to have cravings. Whether or not you can cope with them is up to you. Just remember, what you are doing for your family by losing weight and getting healthier is much more important, and long lasting to them, than eating something. What will they remember ten years from now? A piece of cake shared? Or a thin mom?
