Atkins set to launch reformulated snack bars

Atkins, a key player in the weight controlled nutrition category, is set to launch its brand new low carbohydrate reformulated snack bars this Autumn and two new flavours are being introduced to the popular range.

The packaging has also undergone an overhaul with eye-catching, easy to read designs. This new livery will improve the standout on-shelf and, by optimising valuable fixture space, help increase the rate of sale for retailers.

The Atkins Diet is the best-known eating plan in the UK with an estimated three million people adopting the diet at its peak. With the recent revival of Atkins in the national press, the diet looks set to make a huge impact on the market and the demand for the bars will soar. Over the next six months Atkins will continue to work on developing even more products to add to its portfolio in 2009, helping those following its carb-controlled diet to lose weight through carefully formulated recipes and readily available snacks.

Atkins' own Science Advisory Board has been developing the new and improved ‘Atkins Nutritional Approach' diet which has been backed by a two year study in America, proving that a low carbohydrate diet is a more effective way of achieving weight loss than other diets, whilst supporting cardiovascular health with favourable cholesterol profile results. The launch of the products will support the diet, while at the same time making it easier for people to follow.

The bars offer consumers a wide variety of flavours and come in three ranges: Advantage, which is available in five flavours, including Chocolate Peanut Caramel; Day Break bars which come in packs of five and include new Almond Cranberry. These will sit alongside the already successful Endulge bars.

Peter Valentine, managing director of Atkins UK explains: "The Atkins range of new and reformulated ‘grab and go' snacks offer the perfect option to consumers who are not only following the Atkins Nutritional Approach but who are also looking to regulate their weight and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

"The PR and advertising surrounding the rebranding, reformulation and emerging scientific evidence of Atkins will ensure that the brand receives the right kind of media attention and consumer focus, to drive trial in store and maximise a great return on investment on offer to retail partners."

Atkins snack bars are the perfect size to carry in a handbag or brief case, store in an office drawer and even a glove compartment. They make on-the-go snacking easy and convenient and can be eaten at any time of the day.

The new Atkins bars contain only one gram of sugar, high levels of protein, fibre, good fats and reduced levels of refined carbohydrates, as well as an improved taste and texture.

The Atkins bars will retail at Endulge Bars £1.09, Advantage bars £1.89 and packs of Day Break bars £5.49. For trade enquiries please contact 0161 280 2468 or svalentine@atkins.com
