Well, back from the dentist... I really liked being under the IV sedation! Don ' t recall feeling a thing. Tooth is just a bit sore right now.... and my NOSE!! and extreme affirm are all numb.....
But here ' s the question... the iV they added the drugs to was a 5 % dextrose in normal brackish.... 5g dextrose per 100ml. I got just about 500ml of the IV....
I ' m still kind of math impared.... ( still kind of impared overall actually... ) Is this going to knock me out of ketosis? Just how many carbs was this?
Well, they were all out of turkey borth IV.... so it was not like I had a choice in the matter.... Probably couldn ' t have gotten them to change to just normal salted if their protocal is D5W.....

I imagine that with your progress it won ' t affect you too much. Glad to hear it ' s all over with. Enjoy the sedation while it lasts.... [ / icon_lol. gif]

Ok, so a little reading and sleep later... the answer is distinct to me...
This was actually a trick question...
5g sugar per 100ml. 500ml taken... would be 25g sugar.... and 25g carb.
Not great that it was all surgar... but not enough to really do anything to my diet.... So for the day I ' ll end up around 35 or 40.... I can live with that.
BTW... the sedation did its job... I don ' t recall any pain. On the other hand... it was a jip... no high... not even the " drunk / releaxed " feeling I was promised... Guess I fell asleep too soon!

Bliss, as you ' ve discovered, that much glucose will knock you out of ketosis - but only for a very short while.
Just for the record - and for anyone else who is going to need IV fluids - you can always ask the doctor / dentist / whoever could you please have IV fluid without glucose. There are occasions when you must have glucose, for example some drugs can only be given in glucose, but if all you need is fluid, most doctors will happily give you saline or Hartmann ' s. I ' m going to need surgery myself soon, and intend asking the anaesthetist for " sugar free " fluids if possible. [ / icon_wink. gif]
Cheers - and I ' m glad to hear you had a painfree experience, Bliss. [ / icon_smile. gif]

As an RN I can tell you that the amount of D5W was minimal,
just enough to keep your vein open so you could get the medication
required for sedation and pain relief.
Unless you are ' under anestheshia ' for a prolonged period
would you recieve enough D5W to effect blood sugar levels
and in that case you would need the calories to maintain bodily functions.
' Don ' t sweat the small stuff ' as they say.
Do what you have to do and get on with the rest.
Healthy teeth and gums are far more important than a few extra carbs.
But too bad you were too ' out of it ' to enjoy the sugar ' high ' [ / icon_lol. gif]
