Hi, I started Atkins diet on 07 / 06. I have been eating only burger patties, chicken breasts, lettuce with lemon juice and tuna with mayo. I need to know if that ' s ok. How much mayo is too much mayo? Same question for everything really. Can I eat the following foods? pickles, banana pepper rings, hot dogs ( weinies ), ham ( cold cuts? ), which condiments / spices am I allowed? I drink lots of water but with my food I drink unsweetened kool - aid with splenda. Is that ok? I am male 36 years old 5 ' 10 " and weigh 259 when I weighed myself on the night of 07 / 05. I need to weigh 190 I think is ok for me. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Hi and welcome. Have you read the book?. If not you really should. In the meantime you can always check out the atkins website. As for mayo i don ' t know how much you plan to eat but i can ' t envisage overeating it. As long as it ' s real mayo and not the miracle whip stuff you should be fine. Hot dogs should be okay but make sure you read the combination. different brands have different things in them. so the sugar content may be very high in some of them. Don ' t know bout the kool aid, pepper rings or pickles since i don ' t eat any of that. Ham you can have but make sure it doesn ' t have the fillers in it. I ' d say go with real meat and not the processed lunch meat when possible. And read the book. If you ' re in induction you should stick to the list of allowable foods.

There are sugar free pickles, but you have to look for them. I wouldn ' t do them during induction, in any case as they do have some carbs. Read the labels on everything you eat. They will tell you carb counts and whether or not there is sugar ( anything ending in - ose like sucrose, dextrose, maltose, fructose, etc. ) and added fillers. Check the hotdogs and sausages too as some of them have bread / cereal inside as fillers. The more natural the food, generally, the better.

You must read the Atkins book and refer to it frequently at first in order to do the diet correctly. You are not eating a proper menu right now and you are not going to get all the knowledge that you need just from people here telling you things.
You should be eating more vegetables; tempering how much protein you eat by paritally filling your appetite with them. Please get the book, read it and then use it as a reference until you are thoroughly familiar with the plan.
Good Luck! [ / icon_smile. gif]

I know you are probably anxious to start the diet right away but please listen to what others said about educating yourself first. This site has FAQ section which is very useful, Atkins site has a lot too. Those 2 sources alone should get you through until you get the book but you do need to get it.
Also keep in mind, when we say read the lables we mean read the ingredient lists, not just the nutrition info because it might say 0g of carbs when it is actually. 9g or <1g.
welcome and good luck
