Do you think it would be wise and / or safe to stay on induction until i lose my 20 more lbs.. even if it means staying on it for 3 more months? That is my goal weight to lose.. and then if i hit a stall a long the way.. then to phase into OWL and so scatter?
Thanks

I would say NO!
When you only have that small amount to lose, you need to move on to the next phase after your 2 week induction.
If you ' re wanting to lose this weight fast, you ' re at the wrong place. This is about losing weight healthy and wisely. I have about 25 pounds to go. I just started induction again yesterday. After my two weeks are up, I will move on to the next phase.
I don ' t like induction. It ' s too momentous. Plus, if I was to lose all of my weight during induction, I can swear on my budgeted children, I would gain everything back in a heart beat. Atkins is not a get thin quick diet. It ' s a way of life.
Atkins is a tool that teaches us how to eat healthy again. That ' s why we slowly add compound carbs back into our diet. Be patient and hang in there. You want to lose this weight right so that it will stay off. [ / icon_cool. gif]

I have 33 lbs left to lose and originally planned to stay on Induction all the way through but then realized - that ' s not teaching yourself squat.
The second you lose your last pound - what are you going to do?
The minute you add carbs of more than a slight amount - you ' ll gain I ' m sure. The method behind the diet is to increase your carbs slowly until you know at which point you will gain weight.
What I ' m doing is when I get to 10 pounds left, I plan to knob out of Induction and add 5 carbs each week. When I start to gain weight, I know that ' s my carb limit. Of course I fear that the second I eat a full 20 everyday or a full 25, I ' m going to gain, but I ' ll start to panic in the forum when I get to that point.
If you stay on Induction until weight loss is done - you ' re just on the diet to lose weight and not as a WOE and the weight will surely come back.
Some people do meet this as a way to just lose weight and then doorknob over to a different sort of plan - but if this works for you - why not just do it the right way and have patience with it? It won ' t fly off - I learned that lesson, and you ' re raw like me - so what ' s an extra month or so at the end if you ' re eating foods you like and are going to be able to keep the weight off for life?
That ' s how I see it now... but I did think like you 2 months ago.

Your best venture would be to keep eating low - carb. Exercise for an hour everyday and make sure you do weight resistance at least 3x a week. Your weight should fly off of you. Plus, you ' ll tone up and lose inches. Make sure eat enough for your basal metabolic rate.
Quote:
Your Basal Metabolic Rate represents the minimum calories your body needs each day for basic function like heartbeat, blood flow, body temperature regulation, respiration, etc.. It does not number calories your body will use for movement and activity.
In progression to effectively lose weight, you must eat enough calories each day to meet your basal metabolic requirements. If you eat too few calories, your body will lower your metabolism and begin to conserve energy for survival.
meaning you ' ll stall!

That was sweet, camaroguy! I think she is absolutely adorable myself, however we all share the same struggle rather it be 20lbs, 100lbs or 200lbs that we are trying to lose and despite each of our various body types and sizes, we all share a similiar goal, ( seeking our preferred weight, optimal health and long life ). With all that said - I hear that last 10lbs - 20lbs is the most challenging of all, so we ' re all still in your corner Candy! You keep going girl, you ' ll get there!

Candy,
I just read this article, this should help you!!!!!!
Quote:
copyright 2002 by Greg Landry, M. S.
I received a telephone call from a lady last week. Her first word was " heeeelp "! She was on a weight loss program and only losing about one half pound per week. She wanted to speed things up but didn ' t want to do anything that was unhealthy. Here ' s what I told her:
If you ' re interested in losing fat, you ' re objective is to create a daily caloric deficit. For example, If you ' re consuming 1700 calories per day, and expending 2000 calories per day, your caloric deficit is 300 calories.
So, if you ' d like to increase your daily caloric deficit, you have two options; to decrease your caloric intake by eating fewer calories, or increase your caloric expenditure via more activity / exercise. However, you cannot decrease your daily caloric intake much lower than 1200 to 1500 or so without potentially creating health and metabolism problems. So, the remaining factor in the deficit equation is caloric expenditure through increased activity / exercise.
The good news is that you can substantially increase your caloric expenditure. For example, if you ' re exercising for 30 minutes three days per week, over a period of several weeks you can increase your exercise to 60 to 90 minutes per day, six to seven days per week. An example of this would be 60 minutes of aerobic exercise, six to seven days per week and 30 minutes of weight training three days per week.
So, in this example, you would increase your monthly exercise minutes from about 360 to 1800. Plus, in addition to the calories that you ' re expending during exercise, you would also substantially increase the number of calories you ' re burning 24 hours - a - day, yes, you ' ll even burn more calories while you ' re sleeping. You can ' t beat that, can you?
So, if you want to speed - up your fat loss, here ' s your game plan..
1. Tone your muscles with weight training three days per week. Toned muscles supercharge your metabolism! This should be done just after your aerobic exercise session.
2. Do some type of aerobic exercise ( walking, jogging, swimming, stationary cycling, aerobic dancing, etc. ) on a DAILY basis ( preferably in the morning ) for 30 to 60 minutes! Note: If you haven ' t been exercising, be sure to gradually increase your exercise time.
3. Do an additional 15 to 30 minutes of aerobic exercise in the evening, five days per week. Some people like to do this just before their dinner meal to decrease their appetite, but after dinner is fine too. In the interest of injury prevention and not getting bored with your exercise, try to alternate the type of exercise you do. For example, walking in the morning and aerobic dance in the evening.
4. Incorporate " intervals " into most of your aerobic sessions. Intervals are a powerful tool to help boost your metabolism. they are explained in detail in my article, " Intervals for Weight Loss "..
5. Develop a more active lifestyle. Look for the " hard " way to do things - the way that requires the most energy expenditure.
Put this plan into action and you ' ll like the results - you ' ll look better, feel better, have less body fat and more muscle tone! Get movin '!

Ooooh great article Beetledriver2! Thanks for the tips.. i actually printed it a copy to refer to. I can ' t wait until i can exercise! I was so glad to see a 24 hr gym come to my small town [ / icon_smile. gif] For the aerobic part, well sorta, what do you think of Pilates? Is that effective? I was thinking of doing it at home in my spare time, for the times i don ' t make it to the gym..
Thanks again!

pilates is wonderful for toning. I wouldn ' t consider it an aerobic activity though. Basically you can have a nice toned up body but if you have fat laying on top of it, no one is going to see your toned up body. You have to do an aerobic activity to burn the fat. Weight resistance and pilates helps lift and tighten things up.
Of course, you don ' t have to go to the gym to do cardio. Get outside and walk! But doing pilates is always better than doing nothing at all. Pilates along with an aerobic activity will be a great way to lose weight and tone up!
