Hey everyone,
Long time no see!
I ' ve recently gained about 8 lbs back and am SO confused. I hear alot of health professionals saying how horrible low - carbing is. I find myself really hungry all the time and frazzled about not being able to eat hardly anything.
I ' m about to explode!
I recently have started a program called Power 90 and the guy that designed it talks on his forums. He things very negatively of low - carb diets. But yet, my doctor wants to keep me on it.
SOMEBODY HELP!

Micky - what have you actually been eating? The fact that you say you are hungry all the time sounds like you are either not eating enough or maybe slipping in some high carb things that are triggering your appetite. Also your comment about not being able to eat hardly anything - there really are so many choices out there. Check out the low carb recipes and just start trying them. I knock out out the recipes from here and other low carb sites and have them in a notebook. When I find myself in a modus eating the same thing day after day I just give thanks through my notebook and find something I haven ' t tried and try it out. Think about what you feel you can ' t eat and figure out a way to modify it so you can eat it. I ' ve managed to make chili and cornbread, pizza, lasagna, burritos, even garlic bread, all low carb. True some things don ' t come out great but occasionally I come up with some pretty yummy stuff.

Hi, Micky - long time indeed!
The weight gain you talk about, was it before you got off Atkins, or after? I looked at this Power 90 thing, and it seems to be a fitness program, not a diet, so it shouldn ' t refute Atkins. I fear why you are hungry - could you post a menu, please, so we can all look at it and maybe find out what ' s wrong?
Hugs, Micky.

Hang in there. I think this type of diet is great for most people.
If you check changes in your cholesterol and things like triglycerides go down you should stick with it. The only downside I see is you need vitamin C and flavanoids ( take a multi and put lemon in your water eat strawberries, broccoli and green peppers ).
What are you eating? I found the flaxseed meal to be a real help. Now I vary breakfast with eggs, pancakes and hot flaxseed cereal ( that way I do not get bored ). My other meals promote to be meat and green veggies and / or cauliflower ( I even like dipping that raw into a mustard sauce made of dijon, mayo and a little spenda ).

Hey everyone! Thanks for the replies.
Well, often, since I ' m a night owl, I don ' t get to eat breakfast.
My lunch is oftentimes either a big bowl of broccoli, a salad, or something like a left over pork chop from the night before.
For a snack it ' s something like sugar - free jello, pepperoni, if I haven ' t had a salad, I ' ll eat a salad. Sometimes I ' ll eat nuts.
For dinner, it ' s always low carb, since my mom really respects what I ' m doing and wants to help me. Butterfly ' ll cook from the book or another little low - carb book she has.
I have some sugar - free jello before bed and 2 glasses of water to hold me over for the night.
I think sometimes I go too long w / o eating. Some days I don ' t even eat veggies. I ' m NOT a vegetable person.
By the way, I gained weight because I wasn ' t on Atkins for about 3 weeks after I got my wisdom teeth out.
What do you guys suggest?

Go back on strict Induction for a few days to get yourself back into ketosis and not feeling so darned hungry? [ / icon_confused. gif]

In 3 weeks, most of what you ' ve gained is waterweight - as glycogen is stored in your muscles, it binds water in.
I ' d say you should do a few days - maybe a week - of Induction, until you ' re back in ketosis. Then go to OWL and make sure you keep your carbs low, but expand your food choices - add some nuts and / or berries, and other stuff. Different veggies, maybe?
Make sure you eat breakfast - skipping it is a very sure way of kickstarting starvation mode ( I should know... ). Make it even very small, but make sure you get something in your stomach. And yes, you are right, you should try to eat more often; not necessarily more food, esp if you are not hungry, but smaller portions more often. And drink your water - you didn ' t mention that, but you know very well how important it is.
Good luck, Micky, I hope it works for you.

Hey Pinky!
It wasn ' t too bad. They give you an IV and put you under for only 15 minutes. If you ' re getting a bottom one done, they ' ll novacane your nerve. Your top ones won ' t give you hardly any pain, but your bottom ones will. They tell you to use an ice pack and a heating pad, and that helps. Of course, the " happy pills " do wonders. All in all, you won ' t be writhing around in pain, but with your bottom ones, you ' ll be uncomfortable.

Hehe... still off topic...
Not all dentists offer IV sedation... some offer a pill, some only novacain...
I had my wisdom teeth pulled long time ago with just novacain... I don ' t recall any super pain from it, but it was unpleasant. ( Especially hearing the teach crack / break... )
I recently had dental work done under the IV sedation... and compared to other dental work I ' ve had done... it was a piece of cake! ( Low carb cake of course. )
I think most oral surgeons do the IV sedation... but not all dentists...

I got the normal shots for mine. No laughing gas or IV. Plus I had to change Adrienne ' s diaper in the middle and he had to numb me up a lot. It took him several hours to extract them as mine hadn ' t come in yet.

I think that people just get a mental block when they here the word " Atkins ". If you tell them that you avoid sugar, white flour and processed foods, they don ' t think twice.
There was an article in Runner ' s World describing the diet of this one Olympian. This magazine is generally anti - lowcarb. This runner ' s diet was basically Atkin ' s maintenance, but mentioned nothing of it. Nobody reads enough about Atkins beyond induction to understand it.

Well, see, mine hadn ' t come out yet. They cut them out. I think that ' s why they did IV. This guy was a maxilliofacial surgeon. Wonderful guy. He even walked me to the car afterwards! Hahaha!
