can someone tell me if the new sugar free russell stovers peanut butter cups are okay during induction? Im guessing they are not because it contains sugar alcohol in it.. but my dr. i went to.. we were talking about atkins and dame said queen ate them all the time during atkins and was very successful.. here is the information:
Total Carbohydrates 17g 6 %
Dietary Fiber 2g 9 %
Sugar Alcohol 13g
Thanks!

Sorry - if it ' s not on the " Acceptable Foods " list of induction, it isn ' t safe, even at 2 net carbs. You have to subtract the sugar alchohols and fiber from total carbs to come up with net carbs... but the whole point behind the induction phase is to break the sugar / carb addiction. Once you ' re past induction and enter into a WOE, you can add in more carbs ( suggested 5 grams of carbs per week ) until you find your doorstep. It is here you could add in an occassional treat without it compromising your success. Hope this helps! [ / icon_biggrin. gif]

candygirl,
I ate these and similar fare since I started on the diet and they never caused me any stalls.
HOWEVER ( note the caps ) they don ' t taste that great ( especially the stover ones ), for some people they cause stalls, for me they cause viscious stomach pain ( getting stabbed has to be better ) and last but not least you may become a bit to intimate with your local porcelin ( for lack of a better way to put it ).
I would engineer clear. Not worth it.
SF Jello is your friend. If you absolutely must break, I have found better luck digestive tract wise with Atkins Endulge products or some low carb ice cream.

OMG, i will vouch for that.
One of Two as a treat has never caused a problem. But one day i had like 4 of them and i had severe gas / diarhea / cramps at work. I work at the front desk of a hotel i. e. - Lots of customers, and all day at work was just awful. It was the most torturous experience of my life.

Where were you when your diarhea came back? [ / icon_eek. gif]
I use to work in the hotel business, too! I remember clearly the afternoon a flu bug was pusillanimous up on me with at least 15 people standing at my counter waiting to check in and... suddenly the volcanic rumblings began. I swear to God, my eyes actually crossed and I broke a cold sweat. I had no choice than to fake a phone call and politely excuse myself for a brief moment to check out a small emergency on the 2nd floor... and then raced around the corner and into one of the banquet room bathrooms! I had no choice!

Why would you think that any kind of candy is " okay " during Induction? This is the beginning of building new habits so you can control your weight. Candy is about the last thing you need. When I started Atkins I ended up reading the book about five times. I recommend that for you too.
If you are eating low carb candy now, you will be eating high carb candy in the future and wondering why you gained back all the weight you lost.
Remember, most people, about 95 % of us, even those who manage to lose weight, gain it all back within five years. The only way to prevent that tragedy is to change your eating habits now, while you are losing weight.
I recommend that we all focus on the singular goal of losing our excess weight; starting the first day of Induction and continuing for the rest of our lives. If you really need something to eat at first, go to the food list in the book and find something there.
Good Luck! [ / icon_smile. gif]

I agree with Teuthis - I haven ' t bought a single low - carb product for 2 months and it ' s ten times easier. I eat the veggies, meats, eggs, chicken, etc. The only product I have is zero carb italian dressing because that ' s the only kind I like and it ' s not net carb zero - its a real zero.
For my first 2 strict weeks on induction, I eliminated whipped cream and made my worst habit a small bowl of sugar free jello. I even got rid of the gum. It ' s easier to bring the food back in moderation after you eliminated it then it is to stop having it to begin with.
Induction is strict - no candies, no products, etc. I ' ve kept it that way after messing up the same way at first and found my best results when I followed the diet to a T - including the salads etc. But most importantly the reaching 20 carbs a day!
Don ' t bother with the candy - not worth it!

Ok, I read the thread and got really confused. ARe you supposed to subtract dietary fiber AND sugar alcohols to get the net carbs? I thought you add the sugar alcohols to the total carbs [ / icon_eek. gif] [ / icon_eek. gif]
I have diet popsicles and here is the info:
total carbs per popsicle: 1. 3
carbohydrates polyol: 5. 9
calories: 19

Candy,
Since you only have about 20lbs to go, I would recommend staying away from any low - carb sweets, cakes, candy, etc. Including all energy bars.
All this stuff is so full of sugar alcohol. I think it will eventually catch up with you and cause a stall. It already seems hard enough to lose weight towards the end. Those last 10 pounds are evil. [ / icon_twisted. gif]
If you must eat sweets, hit the Sugar free jello. Check out the recipes on the forum. They ' re some great low - carb desserts on the web.
