Okay, so after having a horrible weak and freaking out and having a nice emotional breakdown, I ' m feeling better. If you ' ve seen my progress thread you know I ' ve discovered that candida is probably the wrongdoer behind not only my inability to lose weight, but many other things. You might have also noticed my bumping candida topics up and the article I posted. [ / icon_smile. gif] Since this is an issue I ' m dealing with I decided to share with the whole board and put an overload of information out here. [ / icon_lol. gif]
I ' m torn though, I have spent the majority of the last 3 hours at work ( it ' s Saturday, I ' m only here in case something goes wrong, no work to do, just another way for them to squander my time... [ / icon_smile. gif] ) reading through pages and pages of information and searching all the posts here about candida and now I ' m having data overload and unable to make a decision on what to do. So, for those of you who know, please help.
Should I go first off to the doctor and ask for a test before trying any of the OTC treatments or should I try the OTC treatments and only go to the doctor if they don ' t seem effective? My fear here is, if I do OTC and then go to the doctor and the levels are normal, chick ' ll never believe me again if they get worse. Of course, I also am a little apprehensive to call and ask specifically for a candida test because, well, I ' m obsessive and I ' m worried the doctor will say ' No ' and write down me off as being obsessive....
I want to feel better so I want to make a decision by Monday. I haven ' t worn a belt in over three years or anything restrictive around the waist because the bloating / cramping / gas / pain has been so awful, the idea that I might actually be able to get rid of this is so impressive that I want to get moving fast. Not to mention the many other issues, like scratching my skin until I filter because it itches so bad!
I finally opened up to my friend last night about this and all the things I deal with that I try to ignore and have previously accepted as being just something I have to deal with and miss couldn ' t believe that I hadn ' t begged and screamed for more help from my doctors all these years. I have doctor fear though, because I ' m obsessive so I treat to suck it up and grin and bear it, but I have not had a stomach trouble free day in years, I haven ' t not had a runny nose or itchy skin, itchy eyes, either. I get spots from a fungus all over my skin, etc...
How bad are the ' die - off ' sypmtoms really? I can ' t really miss work so I ' m a little concerned. oops, boss is coming gotta go....

Carrie, would going to a Naturapath ( sp ) Dr. be an option for you? I have a friend here on Atkins who ' s just completed her Candida regime / diet as prescribed by her NP, and she ' s feeling GREAT and has lost a few lbs as well.

Lexi ' s = hadn ' t thought about that, will definitely see if there is one listed in my new health plan ( which, ironically they are a month late in giving us our cards so everyones currently paying full price ) I imagine that type of doctor would be more understanding.
Well, well, well - it ' s a good day to be obsessive! I picked up the current issue of ' First ' because they tend to have great low - carb recipes and info. Don ' t actually try the recipes cuz not usually enough time to cook, but they sure are fun to look at! [ / icon_smile. gif]
Low and behold in the ' health breakthrough ' section they were exposing a ' Mysterious Illness ' that could secretly be harming millions.... the culprit?
Quote:
Candidiasis - a condition in which yeast ( candida ) overpopulated and inflames the intestines. This causes fluids that contain microscopic food particles to leak out of the intestine into the body triggering food allergies.
Well looky, looky - apparantly Dr. A and this forum are way ahead of the times... [ / icon_smile. gif]
Anyways, it told the story of a young mother who after her 2nd child had issues and her doctor said it was a yeast infection and when she still felt bad after the treatment, told her there was no way she still had an infection and it was in her head. Why do we pay so much money to feel like morons? [ / icon_smile. gif]
So she investigated on her own and ended up at a holistic Dr. ' s office and had the Candisphere test done and had a result of 130, 80 being normal.
She also had food allergy tests done and now knows this issue has made her allergic to 14 foods ( kinda scary! ) including beef, bananas, avocados, milk and almonds... which is what causes her to get dizzy spells ( here I thought those were all in my head or a by - product of anxiety... )
Dr. gave her Nystatin to kill the yeast, flaxseed oilto boost her immune system, and a garlic pill that has anti - fungal properties. Also, acidophilus and bifidus to restore the balance. All her symptoms dissappeared and she is back to her healthy self and she lost 20lbs in the process.
Yet some health professionals still don ' t believe that this is a real medical concern. Thank goodness we have such smart and helpful people on this board!

If you are concerned, go to the doctor. That is something they can quickly determine is a problem or not. Then you will feel at ease about it, or get the treatment you need.
Good Luck! [ / icon_smile. gif]
