Once you are past induction, you can add a lot of variety to your diet. There are a lot of recipes out there that are low carb but more interesting than just meat and eggs.
Years ago I did Stillman, which is much more rigid than Atkins. ( No fat, no cheese, no vegetables, just meat and eggs. ) I didn ' t last and I learned to hate eggs and chicken. Didn ' t eat either for years. Atkins, OTOH, has been very easy for me to do, because I can eat tomatoes and cheese and strawberries and other foods that I enjoy. A cheese omelet is much tastier than boiled eggs. At least, for me.

Sat Jan 12, 2008 1: 43 am    Post subject: Hi Maro!
I just started on Tuesday. I also tried before, but didnt take the time to make a variety of foods. I also just ate the meat, cheese and eggs and got real sick of it.
This time I bought a low carb cookbook called Phase 1, low carb recipes, by Better Homes and Gardens. I am not used to following a lot of recipes, but i pronounced all the recipes I thought I could make, then added the veggie recipes that would go with it. I put the name and page number of the veggies on the main dish ' s page. Ugh. I am making the first one tonight. I add potatoes for my family or pasta.
Anyway, I am seriously fat, too and sick of it. It is a whole new way of eating for me, but one I can do.
Good luck. There is also a " progress forum " I posted there. Hope to see us here for a long time.

You ' re doing great Maro. Hey, drink as much water as your body tells you to. I ' m more thirsty on this diet also, so I probably max out at 10 glasses per day. Have you tried lemon juice in water? I use the bottled kind and it ' s so good. 2 tablespoons counts as 3 grams of carbs, if I remember correctly.
I look forward to seeing how much you ' re going to lose after 2 full weeks!!

Congratulations Maro!!!! 13 pounds, what a great start! The Atkins Essentials book I own says maximum of 2 oz. of lemon juice is allowed on Induction but hey, whatever you ' re doing is WORKING!!
My book also says constipation is common, despite overkill on veggies and water. I think it ' s the protein or something. No matter. Two tablespoons of Flax seeds in water or sprinkled on salad helps too. Flax seed is so good for everything else too, including Omega 3, an fundamental fatty acid.
Thanks for the links on carb counters, I ' ll be using them. You must be so pumped for week two! Way to go.

i am kinda low this week... i think coz of work... [ / icon_rolleyes. gif]
i cant sleep properly... i skipped gym too... [ / icon_sad. gif]
but i havent eaten anything other then things on the list.. tho i find my self starving in the middle of the day... it recurrently was a cola or candy time [ / icon_surprised. gif]
so i think even if i havent lost weight i would have maintained it after the first week
one more day and i am going to visit the scale
i hope it is happy with me
question hw long should i go on induction?

Congratulations on your loss! I found my stix at Wal - Mart in the * * * * * * department in the passage that carries products for diabetics. They are called Ketone test strips and are made by ReliOn. They were around $7 for 50 stix. I also saw another brand at Walgreens behind the counter at the * * * * * *.

First Congrats to Maro! 13 lbs wow! Hello everyone I am so happy I have found this forum online I feel I need some support to do this. I often start diets but quickly get frustrated when I do not see results. My goal is to lose 17lbs. I am 5 ' 3 and 149lbs. I started last Saturday. I have the feeling I ' ve had more than 20 carbs. I just found out that sugar free gum has 1 - 2 carbs per piece. I had 3 at work. I also had some sheese for snack. So when I add the cheese plus veggies plus my 3 sugar free gums, yes, it is more than 20. What do you do when you get hungry between the meals, besides drinking water? [ / icon_smile. gif]

wow Maro,
Your work sounds really interesting and HARD!
Right now I am a housewife or a Stay At Home Mom=SAHM. I used to be a clothing designer and I owned my own little company. I primarily made childrens ' clothing. I sold my stuff all over the world. I am promising to start up again in a smaller way, but I need to make stuff!
I get a hard time doing Atkins in the US, do people question you about it in Pakistan? My mom cannot understand it at all.
ok. Keep up the GREAT work.

its a very known diet here in pakistan but most people do it for quick weight loss not as a lifestyle
as my frontage is the first thing tht shows weight loss people ask but i dont tell them tht i am doing low carb or atkins... coz i know they wont understand and i dont like giving lectures... i just say fresh vegies
but my first day of atkins i told everybody in my office... tht dont offer me anything i am off carbs... and they are still making fun of me... [ / icon_biggrin. gif]
i thought it would be easy for you guys as you get alot of things i dont...
or should i say its a Blessing in Hide tht i dont get all the protein shakes and atkin low carb bars etc
my mom did this back in 80 ' s and say it really worked... on the other hand my dad is totally anti diets ( all of them ), he thinks he knows alot [ / icon_twisted. gif] ( he is a doctor ) [ / icon_lol. gif]
you should start working coz it really gets ur mind of food... atleast it does to me

After 2 weeks...
i have lost total of 13lbs..... which is good.... i have also lost 1 n 1 / 2 inches on my waist and hips [ / icon_lol. gif]
after being here i guess its nothing to worry everybody goes in stall phase i guess i ' ll start lossing again in 4th or 5th week..... rite?
i look a little different and i do feel my clothes are getting lose.... [ / icon_biggrin. gif]
and i am certainly feeling alot better...
and yeah finally got ketostix.... and i am in ketosis ( its not too dark but its on the darker side ).... but tht means i am in ketosis... rite?
so wht should be my next step?... wht do you guys suggest me to do
move on with OWL or stick to induction?
i aint sick of induction... but i do need something to munch on ( nuts )

Well you could move out of induction and into OWL without upping your carb intake... so you can at least add nuts. That way you can have your something crunchy but still lose weight faster as I believ you said you had quite a bit to lose. I recommend anyone with more than 50 lbs to lose to stay on induction longer but that is each person ' s choice. [ / icon_smile. gif]
Keep up the good work.

Stick to induction! You can add crunchiness by doing Lisa ' s pepperoni chips.
And the occasional nuts won ' t hurt, but if you ' re not tired of it, keep going!

Hi Maro,
Technically if you up your carbs you are now in OWL. Which is fine but you are only in induction if you are under 20 lbs and only eating the foods on the acceptable list.
Good Luck, we will be routing for you!

Are there any dishes you could adapt to be Atkins friendly, like the cauliflower stuffed one?

Now you guys understand how difficult it is to switch to atkins with the Asian cuisine all around you. I have to make this food for husband and son and resist eating it. Thanks Maro for enlightening everyone.
Our typical meal is some form carbohydrate with non - veg and vegetables. Followed by a sweet. Dishes are made to consume more carbohydrates!! A typical Indian lunch would have 3 - 4 dishes to go with your rice or Roti ( bread ).
I wish we could have a lot more ' atkins - friendly indian recipes '. I follow the atkins to the core during induction.. slowly bring it other dishes later.
This time i have lost just 6 pounds in 2 weeks and yesterday i indulged. Now back to the diet hoping i would lose 10 more in the next 2 weeks.

Congrat Maro on your 13lbs lose. That is wonderful. I know what you mean about rice carbs and so forth. My favorate foods are Pakistani, Indian, Thai, Afghan and sushi. One thing all the above foods have in common are lots of rice and bread. I used to eat the above food 90 percent of the time. I know the hardest part of this way of life will be giving up rice and the exotic breads but we must. So hang in there and good luck

Congrat Maro on the your weight lose. 17lbs is wonderful. I also hope that you wil reach your 20lb lose by end of your first month on this diet. But even if you don ' t 17 lbs is still a very impressive amount. Now this sleep thing I have no idea why you are sleeping so much. I seem to do the opposite these days and I sleep much less than usual. Maybe you are tired from your exercise and your body needs the extra few hours? Today it was so funny I felt like I was stalking you. As soon as I went to a site and posted a reply I would see your post right before my post or after it. Kind of funny - - -

The important thing is that you are back on the wagon. What happened to me last time was that after cheating a day or 2, I actually lost weight when I got back on plan. I guess I was kind of shocking my body. Good luck and I know that you can do it. Next Saturday I am invited to 2 parties and I am stressing about it alreay - - - - -

ah i know! i have a party to go to tomorro night to celebrate chinese new year and today i just had to txt my friend saying i ' ll bring my own food, and i may not stay long bcz there ' ll be about 40 people there surrounding me and munching away at yummy foods and it ' s hard enough to stay away from foods in the kitchen, but then to have to go to a party where the focus of socialising is witth food in your hand, it ' s tooo much for me to handle.
also theres a couple of really annoying girls who insist on creating a huge hullabuloo to find out i ' m still on atkins and spreading it through out the room so each and every guest can take their turns at regurgitating some fashionable low fat propaganda. I ' m going to snap if i hear it tomorrow, I ' m going armed with lots of info and comebacks. [ / icon_mad. gif]
why can ' t people just be supportive of their friend ' s choices. I know they don ' t lecture me bcz they care. they ' re lecturing me to show everyone they know about ' good nutrition '.

artinformation, yaz180 thx for supporting me...
yaz180 i completely understand when evrybody tries to impose their opinion of good nutrition... tht ' s annoying... and discouraging
but remember tht we are all here to support you... [ / icon_smile. gif]
good news i hav only gained 1lb for the last slip up...
i hope i can get it even this week...
getting back on induction was good decision for me...
i am already in ketosis after 1 day
looking forward and forward to these 2 weeks i plan to be completely honest with nobody except myself... [ / icon_smile. gif]... coz all my decisions effect my life rather then anybody elses...

Good for you maro!!
I told my doctor about it yesterday... and got the lecture. She says don ' t cut out carbs completely... brown rice and beans, potato with beans and salsa... I want to do what she says... but I just CAN ' T.
Not sure if I feel guilty about it or not...

Clutterbunny - you aren ' t cutting out carbs completely, that ' s what people who don ' t know Atkins don ' t understand. You are eating carbs, but healthy ones, mostly vegetables. After you ' ve lost some weight, you ' ll add in more carbs - more veggies and some fruit. Later still you ' ll add in whole grains. This is not a diet that eliminates all carbs just one that gets rid of the unhealthy carbs ( white flour and sugar ).
