ok so i fashion in an collectible box of Spenda and eagerly use 2 tsp a day in my food, only to find out that the Splenda ( in uk at least ) has a lot of maltodextrin in it and then I look it up on the net and:
' The danger is that maltodextrin has an inordinately high glycemic index of 105. This is 5 points higher than glucose which is 100. And, it is almost double that of nutrition sugar which is around 59. '
* thinks * isn ' t this is vey repugnant during induction? High Warrior... sugar levels peaking....? Why would Dr Atkins recommend this sweetner?

The way around this is to purchase LIQUID sucralose ( which I have never seen ), but the liquid form of sucralose doesn ' t hold any fillers, but it measures by the drop, not the teaspoon, or something along those produce? The maltodextin ( sp ) is a lining to turn sucralose into something you can measure - like sugar.

If this is the case for aspertame as well it would explain why people don ' t lose weight or stall while on induction and drinking diet cola or diet rite.

I don ' t know the facts behind the safe - ness of Splenda, but I do know they had medical proof that aspartame sweet sodas - in the long run - are actually BAD for diebetics. They stated that in the long spurt, nutra sweet can cause swings in blood sugar levels, as well as weight gain.

I so sign with this statement. I ' m in the group of people who ( 1 ) feel man made products are typically harmful and healthy. That being said ( 2 ) I also feel that I won ' t stop eating something until it ' s proven to be hugely unhealthy, like Nutra Sweet.

There are natural - no carb sweeteners. I believe one is called ki - sweet. It ' s made from kiwis. I tried that one once, but didn ' t care for it, and it was expensive.

I saw a news spot on TV about this the other day and thought I would share...
( Since I am unable to post links to other websites in this forum I am going to post part of the article )
From ABC News...
"
Calorie - conscious consumers who opt for diet sodas may gain more weight than if they drank sugary drinks because of artificial sweeteners contained in the diet sodas, according to a new study.
Story
Saccharine Making Us Fat? Aw, Rats!
A Purdue University study released Sunday in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience reported that rats on diets containing the artificial sweetener saccharin gained more weight than rats given sugary food, casting doubt on the benefits of low - calorie sweeteners.
" There ' s something about diet foods that changes your metabolic limit, your brain chemistry, " said ABC News ' medical contributor Dr. Marie Savard.
Though Savard said more research needs to be done to uncover more information, the study does hint at the idea that the sweeteners alter a person ' s metabolism.
Savard said another recent study, which included more than 18, 000 people, found healthy adults who consumed at least one diet drink a day could increase their chance for weight gain.
In the Purdue study, the rats whose diets contained artificial sweeteners appeared to experience a physiological connection between sweet tastes and calories, which drove them to overeat.
" The taste buds taste sweet, but there ' s no calorie load that comes with it. There ' s a mismatch here. It seems it changes your brain chemistry in some way, " Savard said. " Anything you put in your mouth, your body has a strong reaction to it. It ' s much more than counting calories. It seems normally with sweet foods that we rev up our metabolism. "
The information may come as a surprise to the 59 percent of Americans who consume diet soft drinks, making them the the second - most - popular low - calorie, sugar - free products in the nation, according to a consumer survey from the Calorie Control Council, a nonprofit association that represents the low - calorie and reduced - fat food and beverage industry.
Because so many foods today contain artificial sweeteners, the study results may go beyond diet drinks.
" The truth is, we ' re putting artificial sweetener in so many different things in water, in yogurt, " Savard said. It ' s unclear if the results only adhere to diet sodas, she said.

For those of you who would like a no carb version of splenda try Fiberfit by ( I think ) Nutragenics. I get mine from Netrition. com but other suppiers carry it. It is basically sucralose and fiber. They use fiber instead of maltodextrin so there are no " net " carbs. I have only found the liquid but they do make a powdered form as well. Beware, the stuff is not cheap.
