I understand that you can have a total of 20 carbs per day. Do i have to count the eggs, meat ect... as part of the 20 carbs? Which food in the induction phase shld be counted towards the 20 carbs per day???????????

Hello,
You ' re best to look at the acceptable foods ( induction ) post ( listed just exceeding your post ) It clearly shows what you should be counting towards your 20 carb limit. Meat has no carbs so you can eat as much as you like, eggs are vitually nil - just have a look and you can relax and stop panicking!
Welcome on board by the way!

Yes, definitely transcribe out the Acceptable Foods for Induction page and keep a copy with you. During Induction, you don ' t have to count your carbs at all if you keep to the Acceptable Foods list in the amounts compulsory.
Eat enough meat, poultry and fish so that you are not hungry ( without any added carbs like breading, flour coating, like candy sauce, etc ) It ' s not all you can eat, by the way, just enough so you are pleasantly full.
Eggs have. 6 carbs each. Cheese has. 8 to 1. 3 carbs per ounce, depending on the variety. Limit your cheese to 3 or 4 ounces per day.
Vegetables: 3 cups of the salad vegetables on the Acceptable Foods list, measured raw. Or 2 cups of salad vegetables plus 1 cup of Other Vegetables from the Acceptable Foods list. Again, measure raw.
If you don ' t have the book, " Dr Atkins New Diet Revolution " you should get that soon. I don ' t think you can be really successful on Atkins long term if you don ' t read and pursue the book. Even short term results are iffy if you ' re just going by what other people say about Atkins.
Also, you ' ll need a really good carb counter book when you get to the OWL stage. Why not get one now so you ' ll be all set, and you can get quick answers to carb count questions? Be sure that the book includes fiber, because you subtract the fiber from the carbohydrates to get the net carbs. So, if you eat two stalks of celery, the carb count is 2, but the fiber is something like 1. 8, so you have only. 2 carbs.
Here ' s the one I use:
The Complete Book of Food Counts by Corinne Netzer
It ' s only $7 and you can get a used copy for $2 online.

And check out the Atkins website... read about Induction there.
Karen, the website has changed that " 3 cup or 2 cup / 1 cup " veggie rule. Now they just say to eat 12 to 15 net grams of any of the vegetables on the list. Either way... get the veggies in. [ / icon_smile. gif]

Tril,
That ' s good to know. In my opinion, it ' s best to stick with the guidelines from Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution, especially versions published before he died. The Atkins website is run by the corporation to increase sales of the Atkins products and it seems to loosen the restrictions in the diet to appeal to more people.
I agree with you, though, that the important thing is to eat enough the veggies on the list!

I agree on the changes that incorporate the " new products ". [ / icon_rolleyes. gif] I ignore all that and just use the guidelines for the basic diet. [ / icon_smile. gif] I think the 3 cup rule started before " net carbs " became the way to count carbohydrate. When the fiber revolution started we had more and more access to fiber counts... now you can get the fiber content of nearly every food item on earth! LOL If you didn ' t deduct the fiber grams the 3 cups of veggies would equal about 12 to 15 grams of total carbohydrate. Since I deduct the fiber grams I count net grams and disregard the 3 cup limit... otherwise I ' d never come close to getting 12 to 15 grams a day.10 октября 2008 г.
