How is it possible to not lose weight, but lose inches? Because my clothes are fitting better but the scale is not as friendly.
Does anyone else find that Atkins bars, although they say only 2 grams of net carbs on the casing, they actually hinder weight loss?
thanks in advance!

when you do exercise muscles are tightened they get in shape so the difference comes in inches not pounds
even if you just walk it makes a difference
the 2nd question.... i dont eat bars coz i dont have them
but i think in the early stage of atkins one should only take carbs in the form of vegies as said in the book... weight loss also depends on wht kind of carbs u r taking and how tht effects our system

Another reason why you might lose inches but not weight is the detail, that as fat is removed from your cells, it is temporarily replaced by water, until the cell walls can shrink. And water is MUCH heavier than fat. After some period of time, differing from person to person ( repeatedly, no less than a week or two ) the water is released in a advance affectionately known here as " the whoosh " ( therefrom the " Whoosh Fairy " ). Normally, you lose alternating between weight and inches, never both at the same time.
As for Atkins bars, please read about sugar alcohols in the FAQs. They have no effect on some, but they completely stall others - everything depends on how carb - sensitive you are.

Thanks Bluehex! I didn ' t know that water weighs more than fat and how it replaces fat until cell walls shrink. Or about the whoosh and alternating between weight & inchess. You are one smart cookie.
I think I have to stop the bars. They are stalling me. Gonna have to find another thing to look forward to. Thanks again [ / icon_smile. gif]

I think I am eating hidden carbs, too. I have been eating ham that says zero carbs every morning and sometimes for a snack. I hazard it has carbs. Plus, it must have a ton of sodium. I am not losing weight the way i should be. I have barely cheated and feel like I am doing se well. I need to be more diligent about counting my carbs, I guess.
I dont know what I am going to eat with my eggs now. If I make bacon I eat way too much of it, so no bacon.
Plus, my TOM is starting now.
I am frustrated with my weight loss, but feel so much better that I know this is the way I am supposed to be eating. I really need to get under 250 pounds by the 9th to make my first goal.

Awww I ' m sorry hun I wish you the best!! Maybe it is the ham - ham is usually mighty salty and that may be causing some water retention maybe? Is it processed ham or chunks from like a big ham? TOM will definitely also have that water retention effect! I love bacon - have you looked for the bacon that ' s cured w / o sugar & nitrites & nitrates? I found some at publix - I don ' t know if you ' ve got publix there, but maybe that would be a better choice - I just make 3 at a time so I don ' t go overboard. Would something like that help you? I know bacon is salty too but if you ' re eating less of it maybe it wouldn ' t be so bad? or also low - sodium? Maybe it would help your weight loss and help to develop a new plan to where you can learn to eat smaller portions of your beloved bacon? ( lol bacon is beloved by me hehehehe )
Do you think you might be really metabolically resistant? you may want to talk to your doc if you can & maybe try the fat fast described in Dr. Atkin ' s book to see if that gives you a jump - start? Let me know if I can do anything to help [ / icon_smile. gif]

Thanks PH,
Actually, it just occurred to me today to only make a couple peices of bacon at a time. I bought some lower sodium type, too.
I believe i am eating hidden carbs and am retaining water. I am not resistant. I just am a bit stressed b / c of money. Once I get the carbs under control, i will do better.
Thank you so much. Sorry to hijack the thread, Inthepresent.

To answer your question on the bars, actually alot of people have complained that they don ' t work well... that ' s because they actually have approximately 15 - 25 carbs each [ / icon_confused. gif] I checked the nutrition labels before buying them, and fortunately, I didn ' t buy them [ / icon_eek. gif]

The nutritional information is definitely different than what they claim on the front of the package. They are calculating net carbs differently than just subtracting the fiber. Here is one of the nutritional labels:

the reason the NI on the back is different from the Net Carbs listed on the front is because there are items subtracted from the total carb count that do not affect gluclose levels. These items are not listed on the NI so you have to go by the Net carbs that are listed on the front and not calculate the NI on the back.
I have used the bars myself and I have been fine but they do not work for everyone. You just have to try them and see what works and what doesn ' t.
