So, as I believe I read correctly in my Dr. Atkins Revolution Book, the only difference between butter and margarine are that margarines may have trans fat in it = very bad. But what about the margarines out there that subsidize 0 trans fats in them and have 0 carb content? Plus, I read that margarines in tubs are better ( health - wise ) than a margarine sticks in a Dr. Sears Nutrition for the Family book I am reading. Thanks in advance!

If you use margarine, make sure it has no trans fats. Look not only at the label but on the ingredients list for hydrogenated oils. I buy Promise stick margarine.

Well butter has a lot of saturated fat... if you ' re looking to replace some of that with a mono or polyunsaturated fat then a trans fat free margarine made with canola or olive oil would be your best venture. I bought Land ' O Lakes Spreadable Butter this week to try it... it ' s made with butter and canola oil. The sat fat is 4. 5 g, the mono and poly well-balanced are 6. 5 g per serving. It has the taste of butter and it ' s IS spreadable. It came in one pound and half pound tubs. Since I use very little butter anyway ( I prefer EVOO and canola oils ) this should last me quite awhile.
And FWIW, the new South Beach Diet book nixed the ICBINB from that program...

yeah we only had ICBNB because its hubby ' s fave lol ( he is currently deployed so i thought we would finish it off ) - but he got the BIG tub ahhh!!! yeah i guess last time i did get the little land o lake tub it lasted a while because i don ' t use much butter either ( wanted to get more bang for my buck lol ) i wanted to do the switch to something better because of my daughter as well she is still yet very young - but is still very impressionable - eating on atkins she sees mommy eat tons of veggies so she loves veggies too she loves anything green and she even loves lettuce! I looked up the " light " version because anytime they take fat out, they have to replace it with SOMETHING. Usually, that ' s not good stuff. Here ' s the ingredient list for the Light stuff:
INGREDIENTS: Water *, Butter ( Cream, Salt ), Canola Oil *, Buttermilk *, Contains Less Than 2 % Food Starch - Modified *, Tapioca Maltodextrin *, Salt, Distilled Monoglycerides *, Lactic Acid *, Potassium Sorbate * and Sodium Benzoate * ( Preservatives ), Natural Flavor *, Xanthan Gum *, PGRP *, Vitamin A Palmitate *, Beta Carotene * ( Color ). * Ingredients Not Found In Regular Butter. CONTAINS: MILK
Here ' s the indredient list for the Butter / Canola spreadable tub stuff:
INGREDIENTS: Cream, Canola Oil, Salt, Vitamin A Palmitate. CONTAINS: MILK
Here ' s the indredient list for the Land ' O Lakes whipped butter in a tub ( still spreadable! ):
INGREDIENTS: Pasteurized Sweet Cream, Salt. CONTAINS: MILK
I ' d avoid the " light " version, but that ' s just me....
