Hi All..
Sorry for the idiot question but I have been faithfully following the induction program for four days and I just used the ketostix - - NOTHING. What am I doing wrong? Pretty discouraging so would appreciate your insights. Thanks, Car [ / icon_smile. gif]

If you ' re following the rules of Induction to the letter, including eating plenty of fat, protein and Acceptable List vegetables, I ' d give it a few more days before getting concerned. You could also try adding a bit more exercise so you burn all the fat you ' re taking in. That ' s what creates ketones which make the ketostix change color.

Except that exercise USES ketones.. so less of them are leftover to spill into the urine or be exhalled. The more you exercise the fewer ketones in your urine. Exercise will speed up the process of getting into ketosis, though, by using up stored glucose ( this is called glycogen ). Once you stop making glycogen and you use up what ' s stored... you ' ll switch to metabolizing fatty acids ( body fat AND dietary fat ). A by - product of this is ketones.
Try testing first thing in the morning. Ketosis can sometimes take 3 to 5 days to establish. Are you seeing any other signs of ketosis??? Can you taste anything different? ( ketone breath ) Are you urinating more? Is your hunger less? Are any cravings for sugar / carbs gone? The stix aren ' t the only way to determine if your body has made switch from using glucose for energy to using ketones.

`also have you been faithfully following the induction, or faithfully following it WITH the atkins products, cuz the atkins bars stall out everyone pretty much.
