Hello everyone,
I am trying to draw an atkins menu for myself - the problem is I eat all my meals at work and have very little time for them, so ideally I would construct my menu with ready - to - eat supermarket food. ( For UK people here my proximate supermarket is Tesco ).
My caloric ratio should be about 67 / 30 / 3 ( fat / protein / carbs ) with the caloric intake of about 2100 + kcal a day.
Could anyone point me in the right direction - maybe there is a site with this sort of menus, or a post conclusively on this bulletin board. I can ' t be the only one with little time to eat.
Thanks very much for your help

Hiya Yevgen
Wish i could help you out but as I am an Aussie - well - a bit gutless. However.. do you get time to prepare food at home that you can take to work with you? I really cant envisage that there would be many " ready to eat " type meals made commercially that would be suitable for the atkins way of eating. There would be great of " low fat " meals but these would no doubt be loaded with Carbs. There are many options for take to work type food that could be made at home and frozen for reheating at work. Salads can be prewashed and bagged ( without dressing ) eggs can be boiled for snacks. deli meats can be good but be sure you count any carbs ( often sugar is used for remedial the meats ) smoked chicken or cold roast chicken are good.
Sliced cheeses, celery sticks with cream cheese, tins or pouches of tuna or salmon are all easy options. Homemade crustless Quiche or frittata with spinach and bacon or other combinations of veges and meat are easy to cook and freeze in portions to save time for workdays too.
Hope this gives you some ideas
cheers

Hi OK
yes i have ( yum ) but have to be careful as these can cause stalls - - also they are sugared with a sugar alcohol which can cause " bathroom issues "
I like the caramels and the choc centred butter candies

Personally I did not experience much of a metabolic slow down with the them, though everyone differs.
Yeah the chocolate centred variety is my second favourite, after the minty selection.
Im glad you mentioned the bathroom issues, when I first started using them I was unpleasantly surprised.
Do you have any other suggestions for Australian dieters? Another salutary preference, especially after the induction phase is the Waterfords diet sodas. A 1. 25 bottle has only 6 carbohydrates, no side effects and an interesting range of flavours.

Oooo another Aussie. Welcome aboard. Those Double D are sneaky lil buggers aren ' t they? I got a nasty shock when I got a bit mad on them a few years ago. I wasn ' t sure I could have them on Atkins. I thought they had Aspartame in them. I shall have to look at the carton again. Caramels? Choc Centred? Tell me more.
Oh and my find was a product called Sweet William Tangerine Dairy free chocolate. One 50g block has a whole 2. 8g carbs. They have a plain one as well but it ' s a bit ordinary. It will do in a pinch when the choc cravings hit though. I do limit myself to half a block at a time. That way I am only having 1. 5g carbs from it. No artificial sweetners in it either.

Hi Ok and Shazza
I have not tried the waterfords drinks yet.. what are they sweetened with? the number 951 means aspartame which is a NO NO - - because it caused cancer in rats - - dont think it will affect weight loss though - - i am guilty of the odd caffeine free diet coke which has aspartame - - but i dont count that towards my water total. You can find the double D sweets in most chemists and places like priceline... also some supermarkets. occassionally I buy them if i am in the chemist but i try not to go too crazy. If you try them just dont go too mad - they may stall you otherwise [ / icon_eek. gif]
Pork krackling snacks are good too. they are a little dry ( a good excuse to get in a couple of glasses of water ) but nice and crunchy. Go easy cos they are high in sodium. you can crush them and use them in lots of recipes. They are handy mixed with grated parmesan cheese to " Bread " chicken fillets etc. Mostly i just have them when a snack attack hits. You can get them in the chip aisle at Coles ( not every store carries them ) sometimes they are hard to get - - i know if i see them i stock up big time but i always make sure i leave a few for my fellow atkineers! I wonder what the check out chick thinks when i rock up to the checkout with a trolley load of porky bits - - - she must think i am on the Homer Simpson diet!!! [ / icon_lol. gif] DOH!
There is a shop in Adelaide that sells sugar free products where you can get sugar free syrups etc that are low carb. they have a website and you can order over the phone and have the goodies sent to you the shop is called Sugar free zone - - just Google it and it should come up.
There is also a sugar free Maple Syrup available in most supermarkets - - you still have to count the carbs so go easy. if i use it i mix a teaspoon of it with melted butter and a pinch of cinnamon and splenda - - great over a mock danish or atkins friendly pancakes.
NOW i am getting hungry with all this talk of food!!!
Cheers
DOnna [ / icon_evil. gif] ( ps - - Double d USES MALITOL AND ISOMALT as sweeteners which are sugar alcohols ) ( also the reason they can act like draino in the bathroom department if you go overboard on them!!!! )

Oh - - forgot MAYO.. The only sugar free Mayonnaise i have found is Kewpie Mayonnaise. It is a japanese product and you can find it in the Asian Aisle of most supermarkets. It is in a funny squishy bottle wrapped in clear cellophane with a Kewpie doll on the from and red writing. Its VERY yummy [ / icon_biggrin. gif]

To deal with chocolate cravings I use a few things: unsweetened carob chips, unsweetened dutch cocoa powder added to heavy cream with a little stevia and then whip it, I also found unsweetened bakers chocolate in the baking section and am going to try a pecan truffle ball recipe in the George Stella cookbook I just bought. He has a recipe forum on his website with some promising looking recipes ( stellastyle )

I found the chocolate. Though now realise I misunderstood what was meant by ' block ', I assumed " bar ". Not quite the same. A bar is around 20 + Carbohydrates, unfortunately not of much use for most of us.
I have tried the Aussie Bodies high protein low carbohydrate bars. They can be nice at times, or at least with coffee.
However what I stumbled upon tonight is just exceptional. A 45 gram chocolate bar with 4. 5 carbohydrates. Found them in the supermarket, there is a dark chocolate, extra creamy and my ( predictable ) favourite mint chocolate variety. The brand is known as "... well naturally " and was placed next to the Sweet William variety.
Also found the Atkins pancake mix.10 октября 2008 г.
