I am going to give the Atkins a fun. Am I right in thinking a pasty coffee with 1 sugar is not allowed. This will be the bigest challenge for me as its all I drink.
What drinks are allowed?
I am 5 fot 11. 14 stone with a 40 inch waist. I have a pot belly but no fat anywhere else. My legs are thin as are my arms and the rest of me too, its just my pot belly.
Is there a good online list of exactly what IS allowed. I dont want to get it wrong.
Thanks for the help

Hi!!
Yep, ghastly coffee with sugar isn ' t allowed, but I have a substitution suggestion:
coffee with heavy cream instead of milk ( heavy cream is the fat from milk, and i think you count 1 carb per serving ) and a splenda box instead of sugar. ( Although to really be true, you may want to try and avoid caffeine altogether because it hampers weight loss in many people. )
Read the sticky posts in the Induction forum for the info you were asking about - it has rules of induction & acceptable foods [ / icon_smile. gif].
Best of luck!!
Blessings,
Lisa

If you start having a lot of cravings, it could be caused by the caffeine in your coffee. In that case, you might want to doorknob to decaf.

Well I am going to stop the coffee altogether. I stopped smoking a year ago so if I can do that I can do anything. Albeit the coffee challenge will be hard for me. I drink about 15 - 20 cups of hoary coffee a day with 1 sugar in. The milk is always skimmed, no fat. I marveling if this is the reason why I have a pot belly, because of all the neutral coffee ' s?
Also is water seriously good when on the Atkins? What does it do, apart from make you go to the loo every five account?
So in effect if I stop the coffee and the other things on the not allowed list and for instance have bacon and eggs for breakfast, sausages for lunch and a ham salad at tea time i wil loose weight? I find it hard to beleive I can have a fry up and lose weight. I am not getting this eat all the meat you want.
If I stick to the diet how long before I see results, especially my pot belly?
Thank you all for the advice i realy apprecate it, although still a little unsure anything will work on me.

i have 2 cups of regular coffee per day ( dried milk and sweetner in both )
and i am losing on average 6 pounds per week.
and yes this diet really does work, be carefull of sausages cos they can have cerial in em.
you should eat some salad and as much meat, eggs, pork scratchins, cheese as you like, but you will find after about a week or 2 on low carb your hunger should be supressed enough that you dont wanna eat much.
drink lots of water also.

Reading the book will explain all the theory in why this work. Reading the forum will serve as probation that it DOES work in real world situations.
Welcome aboard
And drink lots of water [ / icon_smile. gif]

Yes, water is meaningful. This diet has a strong diuretic effect so you need to bring fluids. Also, water is necessary for fat to be metabolized. Take your weight in pounds and divide it in half and drink that number of ounces of plain water a day. So if you weigh 200 lbs, drink 100oz of water.

If you pursue the rules this will work. Reading the book will explain it all better than most anyone here can. If you ' re really committed to losing weight, I recommend reading the book.
This diet has a metabolic advantage over conventional diets. You ' ll lose weight eating the same or more amount of calories of low fat, low calorie diets, high carbohydrate diets. By limited your carbohydrate intake and making most of your carbohydrates in the form of vegetables, you force your body to burn it ' s fat.

Eat when you ' re hungry until you ' re satisfied. After a couple of days, you ' re appetite will decrease. Calories do count, but you don ' t really need to worry about them for now. Make sure you eat atleast 3 cups of salad type vegetables or 2 cups of salad and 1 cup of other from the acceptable food list. If you need it, I can post the go ahead and get started right away menu from the book.

You going to start seeing some changes in your body in as little as a few days. In 2 - 4 days you ' re body should go into ketosis. You may see a little bit of energy drain and fatigue and possibly diarrhea. That is all normal. After that, you should have tons of energy and a loss of weight. Depending on how much you have to lose and how well you stick to the diet and exercise you ' ll start to feel your close become loose. It ' s not an overnight thing, but you ' ll keep seeing small changes as you go.

thanks for the help towhook. I am starting with my wife tomorrow. I am 5 - 11 and weigh 14. 5 stone. I am not massivly overweight but need to loose the belly.
i like the idea of eating as much meat as you want. i think the salad things gonna kil me. I hate greens but will just stick to celery and tomatoes and lettuce I think. Its the only veg I like.
gonna have a fry up for breakfast, a ham salad fpr dinner and a tuna salad for tea and see how I get on. And copious ammounts of water.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks

Hi,
My husband has a hard time understanding why / how Atkins works and I just sent him these links a few days ago - which I think I obtained from someone ' s post on this site ( at least one anyhow ).

For water, please read the whole post linked below - it will answer a LOT of questions for you. And, please remember that water means water - the instant you add anything else to it, the molecular structure can change and it ' s no longer water - it is something else. To give you an idea of how a tiny change can affect a molecule, H2O is water, which is 2 hydrogens and 1 oxygen. H2O2 is hydrogen peroxide which is 2 hydrogens and 2 oxygens. One little extra atom changes something insanely good for you and the planet into something so acidic it would burn your tissue right off in it ' s pure form. ( the stuff sold in stores as antiseptic is diluted to only 3 %, rarely 6 % )

Salt is perfectly OK, unless you have water retention / blood pressure problems.

LOL
Nobody EVER reads the FAQs on any kind of site... [ / icon_lol. gif]
But seriously, there is a reason they are called FREQUENTLY asked questions. All the stuff is right there: Induction 101, info on bars / sugar alcohols, info on water, info on fat - you name it. Eighty per cent of " could I " and " should I " questions are answered there.
