I think I ' ve finally figured it out. I was just plain eating too much and not losing weight. I followed Donna ' s advice ( 65 / 35 / 5 ) and have started losing weight again.... woohoo!!
Anyway, I ' m a long - distance cyclist and one of the things that my husband loves to do for me is to bake fresh bread ( he even grinds the wheat berries!! ) to have waiting for me when I walk in from a long ride. The aroma of fresh bread wafting through the house is exquisite.
This past Friday, when I walked into the house after a 70 mile ride, there was that irresistible aroma.... fresh bread. Oh no! He doesn ' t even know I ' m doing Atkins.... he would be very upset with me. What to do.... what to do.
Well, I feel really awful at how I handled it. When he wasn ' t looking, I cut off the heel ( my fave ) and put it down the debris disposal.... woosh. So now he thinks I ate the bread. I feel like such a liar! But I don ' t want to come off of Atkins and I don ' t want to tell him I ' m doing Atkins. I just hate to be so delusory.
Anyone else with this sort of problem..... living with someone who doesn ' t know you ' re doing Atkins and would be upset if they learned that you are?
Cheers!

What a pickle you are in! pinched thing. Why would your hubby be upset if he knew you were doing Atkins? Is he one of the unsuspecting who think Atkins is bad for you? My partner has been really supportive of my quest for health and a slim figure. Would it be possible to gently, over the next week or so, break the news to him by showing him articles on the safety of the program? Especially highlighting the health benefits such as stabilised blood sugar levels and prevention of Diabetes, lowering of blood pressure etc - - - not just for losing weight ( as a long distance cyclist you obviously get populous of exercise and probably don ' t have too much weight to lose. I think it would be best if you did tell him - - then you wouldn ' t have the guilt of being illusory and he may even be supportive once he knows it can be a lifestyle change and not a " fad " diet.
I can visualize how tempting that bread would have smelled - - I dont bake bread here any more because I was the only one eating it! And it just smells theologian! Well done
good luck!

Hey Donna.... thank you for the kind, supportive reply. I haven ' t told my husband for many reasons. He ' s actually well - informed about nutrition.... maybe too well - informed. He has a Ph. D. in biology and as a world - class runner and endurance athlete, a keen interest in sports physiology and nutrition. To put it plainly, he knows lots.
As such, he ' s always been judgemental and somewhat disparaging of people who lose weight on Atkins. He says it only works for them because they ' re all so sedentary; that it wouldn ' t work for a " real athlete ", because carbohydrates are so critical for athletic endeavors. Uh.... I beg to differ.
My month on Atkins has taught me that my body is able to function in an endurance capacity quite well, thank you. Initially, at the start of a ride or a run, my quads ache like crazy. I ' m guessing it ' s my body ' s search for glycogen to fuel the activity. Then after about 30 minutes, the aching sensation in my quads goes away and everything feels fine. Like I said earlier, I was able to very comfortably complete a 70 mile ride on Friday... no problems. I just don ' t think I could race or sprint up hills, but for the long, slow stuff... no problem at all.
So I think I will probably tell my hubby about Atkins very soon. Not only to show him that this style of eating is possible for endurance athletes, but that I actually feel really good and am losing weight at a sensible pace. That ' ll save more homemade bread from going down the disposal!!
I ' ll eventually be able to indulge in the bread again, but for now I don ' t have the desire. I ' m feeling too good and enjoying the loss of 6 lbs now.
Thank you again, Donna!

My family ( my mother, grandmother, aunts uncles ) have aproblem with Atkins. So I try not to rub it in their faces.... of course, I don ' t LIVE with them, and so I can alwaysl leave if they get into a speech about it. I can ' t imagine how you ' re hiding it from your husband!
What frustrates me is that when I 30lbs overweight they griped at me less than they do now... at a healthy weight, no longer anemic or pre - diabetic - living proof that it works.
AND IT DOES WORK. You ' ll be able to show him eventually - the proof ' s in the ( sugar free ) pudding [ / icon_smile. gif]

I too got all the negative reactions when I told them I was ' doing ' Atkins, so I no longer tell them, I just tell them I have changed my eating habits and feel so much better because of it.
My husband and kids are very supportive, they are amazed that I am still doing induction after 8 weeks and not complaining about missing some of my favorite things ( dutch licorice ).
I have not cheated once and I think that is because of the fear of Atkins flu hitting me if I did... lol11 октября 2008 г.
