I ' m excited and nervous at the same time about starting Atkins tomarrow Monday 8 / 4 ) I have been on WW on and off for years now so I have been eating low fat foods detailed. I have a friend who has been on atkins and I always thought deb was crazy, well bobby-soxer finally got me to do atkins with her [ / icon_lol. gif]
btw - I am Melissa, I ' ll be 33 this month [ / icon_eek. gif] and I have 3 great kids. I ' ve been overweight since I had my first child almost 12 years ago [ / icon_redface. gif] I just could never get the weight off and more piled on with the next 2. I have about 70lbs that I would love to lose once and for all.
I am so glad I founf this site, I will definately need all the help I can get [ / icon_biggrin. gif]

You are here and ready to go - the first step! Induction can be tough for the first week because you feel gross and don ' t have a lot of energy, but it gets better and it really works! Good luck!

Good luck, Mellissa!!! The first 3 to 4 days are the worst... just get through those by eating lots of protein / fat and water, water, water. It can be hard, but you just have to tough your way through it.

After work last night I stopped and picked up some Atkins friendly foods.
I still have LOTS of reading and learning to do though!! [ / icon_lol. gif]
edited to add - so far for breakfast I had 38 grams of fat [ / icon_eek. gif] usually I have between 3 - 10 [ / icon_lol. gif] Did I say how nervous I am!!?? [ / icon_redface. gif] [ / icon_razz. gif]

Mel... forget about counting the fat. Don ' t even do it!!! I know it ' s hard, but you need to believe that fat isn ' t the bad guy. All those years of low fat dieting will be hard to undo... but try to let it go. Low fat combined with low carb DOES NOT WORK. When you remove the carbs you replace them with fat. It ' s ok. You will lose weight. I know... hard to accept... just do it and see for yourself. Add EVOO and mayo... cook with butter... eat full fat cheese and don ' t trim your steaks or skin your chicken. It will be okay... so long as you don ' t go over on the carbs.
High fat + carbs = weight gain.
High fat - carbs = weight loss.
The difference is NOT the fat... the difference is the CARBS.

Embarrasing moment at the food store. I went to get atkins friendly food and went to buy " Butter " well I have only been buying light margarine forever now.. lol So I had no idea what butter was, needless to say I still need to go and buy some, my friend helped me out. [ / icon_razz. gif]
